Today you have watched how God prepared His people for His first coming over thousands of years and what that means for us today, living this side of His resurrection. Do you know of any other events that work together over thousands of years of history and multiple signposts to connect to one Person? And that have a purposeful design to include all of humanity, not only in the here and now but for all eternity? And do you know of any other person that has risen bodily from the dead, never to die again?
Easter Sunday is the day that followers of Jesus celebrate the Resurrection, the most defining moment of Christianity. Without the resurrection, Jesus was just a man who did good things, taught some profound truths and performed miracles. But his being raised from the dead to live eternally shows his divine nature and proves his claims to be God. It also fulfils all that the prophets of God spoke about hundreds of years before he came to this earth as a child born in Bethlehem. The early church messages proclaim an empty tomb and a risen Saviour. Paul writes, “If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith…your faith is futile; you are still in your sins…If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead” (1 Corinthians 15:14, 17, 19, 20).
