Alpha Online Starting in September!

As we continue to journey as an online community, we want to make a space for people from all walks of life to connect and explore life’s big questions around meaning and purpose. And to help do that we are going to run an online Alpha course starting from the 3rd of September. Some of you are familiar with Alpha and some of you may be wondering, “What is Alpha actually?”

What is Alpha?

Alpha is an effective tool for the local church to use in reaching out to those who are on a spiritual quest or have questions they need to ask about faith, life and God. The free course is a series of 11 sessions centred on discussing some of life’s big questions. Each week we’ll delve into different questions regarding the gospel by looking at a short film or talk which is designed to promote discussion. Each video helps people to think and to share their views and questions – whatever they may be! The goal of this course is to ask, to share and to think in community, to create a safe place for your friends to explore key elements of the gospel week by week.

Why Alpha?

Since its inception in 1977, Alpha has been attended by more than 30 million people worldwide and continues growing at a rapid rate, even more so during this pandemic. Alpha has helped people wrestle through some of life’s biggest questions in an engaging and non-threatening environment. Whether someone has grown up in a religious home or comes from a home where faith didn’t play any part of their day to day life, yet they may be curious as to what this whole “faith” thing is about, Alpha is a great space to explore further. Wherever someone finds themselves on their journey in life, Alpha is a time where they can freely ask the questions which they have about faith, life and God.

How does it work?

Every Thursday evening, starting from the 3rd of September, we’ll ‘meet’ over Zoom to watch a short film together and then break out into smaller groups for some discussion time. Good conversation is the highlight of Alpha!

Volunteer-If you would like to know what facilitators are needed and what is expected of them, then please email me: filip@odysseychurch.co.za.

Invite – If you know of someone who is curious about Christianity, maybe it’s a family member, a friend or a colleague, why not invite them to take part in our online Alpha? Think of 3 people whom you could invite to start the most meaningful journey of their lives!
