Together we can do more
The nationwide lockdown in light of the COVID-19 pandemic has had a direct, non-negligible impact on our community. Accessibility to food, education, medicine and the strain of not being able to work has left families all across the nation in a very difficult position. None more so than our most vulnerable: the elderly, the youth, and those faced with the daily struggle of poverty.
We, as a church, are partnering with various initiatives within the greater Hout Bay community, to help with offering food parcels, face masks and other services to those who are most in need. And, we need your help.
How can I help?
At this stage, we need help in the following areas:
Interfacing with broader community: someone to keep track of what initiatives the broader community is doing and how we may be able to link into these or support them.
Staying updated about the Governments response and how this may impact the church: someone to read and understand what we as a community can and can’t do from a legal perspective.
Face masks: join the Odyssey group that has already started to make face masks and link with the broader Hout Bay community.
Decoders: help people who are in need to understand how they can leverage help from the Government or other systems that are already in place. This is done by reading up on the processes and criteria to receive help and helping the vulnerable link into these systems, so that they can benefit from them.
Offering financial advice: during these times we need to take urgent action to ensure that we have the maximum amount of cash available for immediate families, broader family, church family and our wider community. We need someone to offer financial advice as to how to maximise our finances at this at this time.
Financial support: continue to donate funds to the mercy ministry fund – Odyssey will use these funds primarily to support those in our church who’s status has changed i.e. lost their job or income and can no longer support themselves or their families. We also wish to serve the wider community.
If you would like to get involved in one of the initiatives listed above, or if you would like to donate towards one of these initiatives, kindly click on one of the buttons below.
